Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather has been charged with two felonies in Las Vegas for allegedly writing a bad check to purchase a luxury watch from a resale store.

Mayweather was scheduled for an initial appearance Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court, but he did not appear in person; his lawyer represented him, according to the Clark County District Attorney's office.

The charges include “theft, value $100,000 or greater” and “draw or pass check with intent to defraud, value $1,200 or greater,” as reported by ESPN. A hearing is set for September.

The 49-year-old former champion was charged in April. Prosecutors allege that in December 2024, Mayweather wrote a $200,000 check to Gold and Beyond, a luxury resale store, through Wells Fargo Bank despite having insufficient funds.

Mayweather's lawyer and representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press. If convicted on the fraud charge, he faces one to four years in prison and a fine up to $5,000; the theft charge carries one to 20 years and a fine up to $15,000.

Mayweather is also involved in other legal battles. He was sued in New York for failing to pay rent on a Manhattan apartment and has financial disputes with multiple jewelers. He also filed a lawsuit against his former business manager, alleging a long-running fraud scheme.

Mayweather, a five-division world champion with a perfect 50-0 record, announced earlier this year he was coming out of retirement to return to competitive boxing this summer. He was scheduled to fight in the Battle of the Legends event in Athens, Greece, on June 27.
