Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi has received travel authorization to visit Canada for this weekend's World Cup match against Germany, the country's football federation said, hours after it stated he would not be able to travel due to visa issues.
The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) announced on Thursday that Wahi's administrative situation had been resolved and necessary permits for entry into Canada were obtained.
Wahi is linked to an investigation into suspected sports corruption in France, where unusual betting patterns were detected around a yellow card he received while playing for Nice last month. He has not been charged.
His lawyer, Marie Dose, said Wahi was questioned but released without judicial restrictions. The FIF expressed full confidence in Wahi, calling him an important member of the national team.
Earlier, the FIF said Wahi would remain in the United States until the team returned from Canada due to missing travel documents.
Ivory Coast beat Ecuador 1-0 in their first group match, while Germany routed Curacao 7-1. Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey missed a match after Canada rejected his visa appeal; Partey faces rape charges in the UK.
