United States President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 100 percent tariff on any country that implements a digital services tax on US tech companies, adding that the new tariffs would override any previous agreements.

The message came in a Truth Social post on Friday, and Trump named Europe as a possible target. “Numerous European Countries have been discussing the imminent implementation of a Digital Services Tax on American Companies,” he wrote.

The Republican leader has maintained close ties with the US tech sector during his second term, promising fewer domestic regulations and support for emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. He and his allies have also depicted European content moderation rules as censorship.

The European Union finalized a deal with the US last month capping tariffs on most EU products at 15 percent, but that agreement did not include digital services taxes. Trump later accused the EU of non-compliance and set a new deadline of July 4.

In Friday’s post, Trump warned that the 100 percent retaliatory tariff would “supersede” any other deal “whether implemented, signed, or not” and would take immediate effect.
