German defense startup Helsing is supplying thousands of HX-2 combat drones to Ukraine, funded by the German government. The Bundeswehr has also recently awarded Helsing a multimillion-euro contract.

Earlier this year, critical reports emerged in Western media, including German outlets, citing Ukrainian soldiers who reported technical issues during test deployments. According to Die Welt, many drones were not flight-ready or crashed shortly after takeoff, with a low hit rate.

Helsing refuted these reports, stating that Ukrainian forces are testing the HX-2 alongside company staff at the front, and initial results are "encouraging."

Ukrainian soldiers interviewed by DW identified several shortcomings but declined to disclose them publicly. Commander Black noted that manufacturer representatives would visit soon to investigate.

During a test flight, the drone's motor initially failed to start but was restarted by technicians. On a subsequent mission, the drone successfully struck a truck.

Ukrainian troops praise the HX-2's maneuverability and speed compared to Russia's Lancet drone. They intend to continue working with Helsing, despite initial challenges.
