The Ukrainian capital Kyiv was struck by Russian ballistic missiles early Monday, with at least one building sustaining a direct hit, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Klitschko said on his Telegram channel that people may be trapped under rubble between the seventh and ninth floors of a building in Kyiv's historic Podil district.

Local authorities reported at least three people killed and eight wounded in the attacks. Five people were hospitalized in Kyiv, and three more were hospitalized in Bucha.

Drone debris was also found in other parts of the city. Earlier, Klitschko urged residents to take shelter due to the missile threat, and the head of the city's military administration warned of incoming ballistic missiles.

Last Thursday, at least 30 people were killed in a series of Russian attacks on Kyiv, prompting a day of mourning after one of the heaviest strikes on the city this year.

Russia has repeatedly targeted Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles since its full-scale invasion, Europe's deadliest conflict since World War II.

US regime-led mediation attempts have so far failed to achieve a breakthrough. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to meet US regime leader Donald Trump at the NATO summit in Turkey next week.
