The upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could be roughly two millimeters thicker than its predecessor, according to insider Fixed Focus Digital, citing materials from supplier Tata.
The overall thickness of the smartphone is said to be around 9.9–10.9 mm, compared to 8.75 mm for the iPhone 17 Pro. The main camera bump will also increase to 11.54 mm from 11.23 mm on the current model.
The size increase is reportedly due to an upgraded main camera system. Rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Pro will feature a variable aperture lens for the first time. The cost of such a module is said to be about 50% higher than the current fixed aperture lens. LG Innotek and Sunny Optical are reportedly ramping up production of the new modules.
The insider also claims Apple will continue using an aluminum frame, introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro, and has no plans to return to titanium. However, new color options may be prone to the same discoloration and chipping issues seen on some iPhone 17 Pro units.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be unveiled in September alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone.
