United States President Donald Trump's social media company is reportedly considering charging a $100,000 monthly fee for priority access to his posts, raising major ethical concerns.
Reuters reported that Trump Media and Technology Group, which owns Truth Social, discussed charging financial traders and firms for early access. A lower-tier fee of $60,000 per month for a three-year plan was also reportedly discussed.
Ethics experts denounced the proposal as a barrier to government transparency and a means for Trump to profit from the presidency. Kathleen Clark, a law professor at Washington University, called it "brazen corruption."
Trump has used social media extensively, but was suspended from Twitter after the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. He then invested in Truth Social, which he uses almost exclusively.
Trump's posts can move markets; for instance, his April 9, 2025 announcement of a 90-day tariff pause caused financial indexes to rise sharply.
Democratic lawmakers criticized the plan, with Senator Ron Wyden saying it would "make Wall Street traders rich" along with the Trump family.
