Singapore's Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Faishal Ibrahim, has resigned following his interactions with a woman, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced. Most of their exchanges occurred via online messages, and they also met at public events.

Both parties accused each other of harassment, and police are investigating. However, Wong stated that no criminal offense was committed and no criminal action would be taken. The question was whether Faishal's conduct met the standards expected of a political office holder.

Faishal, a parliament member since 2006 and acting minister since 2025, resigned from both the ruling People's Action Party and his cabinet post. In his resignation letter, he admitted to a lapse in judgment, saying there was no physical relationship but he failed to establish clear boundaries.

This scandal adds to a series of political controversies in Singapore. In 2023, Transport Minister Subramaniam Iswaran pleaded guilty to receiving over SGD 380,000 in gifts from a Malaysian billionaire in exchange for advancing business interests.

Wong expressed sadness over Faishal's departure under such circumstances, noting that the party's image has been damaged by recent scandals.
