Telegram has blocked more than 221,000 groups and channels worldwide over the weekend of August 29-30, according to the platform's official statistics.
On August 29, over 109,000 communities were blocked, and on August 30, approximately 112,000 more were restricted. In total, more than 221,000 groups and channels were affected over the two-day period.
Since the beginning of 2026, the total number of blocked communities on Telegram has exceeded 24 million. This includes groups and channels that have been removed or restricted by the platform's administration under its moderation policy.
However, Telegram's official daily reports do not disclose the specific reasons for blocking each community. Users are left without information about why these restrictions were imposed.
It is worth recalling that in Uzbekistan, more than 50 websites promoting gambling and risk-based games have been blocked. This decision was made following appeals from the Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights regarding 76 internet resources with such advertising.
