Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi stated that the United States must drop its "excessive demands" in nuclear talks to achieve a successful outcome. The remarks were made during a phone call with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Ati, according to a Friday report by the ISNA news agency.
"Success on this path requires seriousness and realism on the part of the other side and avoidance of any miscalculation and excessive demands," Aragchi said, without elaborating on specific demands.
His statement tempered previous comments where he hailed "progress" at the talks and described the last round of negotiations in Geneva as the "most intense so far."
The US has demanded Iran dismantle its nuclear infrastructure entirely, limit its ballistic missile arsenal, and cease support for regional allies. While Tehran has shown flexibility on discussing uranium enrichment limits for civilian use, it treats missiles and proxy forces as non-negotiable.
Amid regional military buildup, China advised its citizens to leave Iran "as soon as possible," and the US authorized the departure of non-emergency embassy staff from Israel. Canada, India, the UK, and Poland have issued similar orders.
