Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met with United States Vice President JD Vance in Washington, DC on Friday, amid growing fears of a potential US attack on Iran.

Al Busaidi, a key mediator in US-Iran talks, stated that nuclear negotiations have achieved "significant, important, and unprecedented progress." The meeting focused on indirect talks mediated by Oman, with the latest round held in Geneva on Thursday.

The US has demanded Iran dismantle its nuclear infrastructure entirely, limit ballistic missiles, and cease support for regional allies. Iran has shown flexibility on uranium enrichment limits for civilian use but treats missiles and proxies as non-negotiable.

The meeting occurred as concerns mount over a potential US military strike on Iran. US President Donald Trump has expressed preference for a diplomatic resolution but repeatedly threatened to bomb Iran if no deal is reached. The US has amassed its largest military arsenal in the region since the 2003 Iraq invasion, including the world's biggest aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R Ford, which arrived in Haifa, Israel.

Iran stated it will not initiate war but is prepared to respond if attacked, threatening to strike US bases in the region. The US authorized the departure of non-emergency embassy staff from Israel, following a similar order for Lebanon. China, Canada, the UK, and Italy are among countries urging citizens to leave Iran.
