German federal prosecutors have charged a 57-year-old Berlin businesswoman with carrying out intelligence activities for Russia. Ilona W., who holds German and Ukrainian citizenship, is accused of working for the intelligence service of a foreign power, the Federal Prosecutor's Office said.

Prosecutors allege that she used her political and military contacts to help a Russian intelligence officer gain access to influential circles and seek information on German defense policy. The case is part of ongoing efforts to counter Russian espionage in Germany.

Ilona W. was arrested on January 21 and remains in pre-trial detention. She faces charges of acting as an agent for a foreign intelligence service.

The development comes amid continued tensions between Germany and Russia. While the allegations have not yet been proven in court, such cases highlight the intensifying intelligence war in Europe.

The investigation is ongoing, and this story will be updated as new information becomes available.
