The final semifinal spot at the T20 World Cup will be decided when India faces West Indies on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the last four.
Defending champions and tournament co-hosts India face historical pressure: no team has ever retained the T20 World Cup or won it on home soil.
West Indies had built momentum until a loss to impressive South Africa in their last Super Eights match.
India has shown mixed form in the tournament, with top-order batters underperforming. West Indies' four-match winning streak ended against South Africa.
Sunday's winner-takes-all clash will be the first major test for the Caribbean side in the tournament. South Africa has already qualified for the semifinals.
India revived its T20 World Cup campaign with "fearless" cricket against Zimbabwe. Opener Abhishek Sharma's fifty and Hardik Pandya's unbeaten half-century helped post 256-4, the second-highest total in tournament history.
"We want to play the fearless brand of cricket we showed against Zimbabwe," batter Tilak Varma said ahead of the West Indies match. "We'll maintain the same intensity in the next game."
Despite high expectations pre-tournament, India's batting has looked fragile at times. Varma acknowledged West Indies' power: "If the wicket isn't good, we'll adjust but keep the intensity."
