Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Araqchi stated that most of the country's high-ranking officials are safe, with possible losses limited to individual commanders.
"Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is alive, as far as I know. We may have lost one or two commanders, but that is not a big problem," he said in an interview with NBC.
These statements come amid reports from foreign media about the possible death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israeli sources and international broadcasts, including the BBC, have discussed the possibility that Khamenei may have been injured or killed, but there is no official confirmation of this information yet.
Recall that on February 28, Israeli armed forces attacked military facilities in Iran, which was officially confirmed by the country's Defense Minister Israel Katz, calling the actions a preventive measure. Following the start of the operation, Israeli authorities declared a state of emergency in the country.
Later, U.S. President Donald Trump officially confirmed the start of a large-scale military operation against Iran, conducted jointly with Israel, with the aim of eliminating an "immediate threat" and preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The situation in the Middle East region has escalated into a stage of large-scale military confrontation. After the joint operation by Israel and the U.S. against targets in Iran, Tehran initiated a massive retaliatory attack affecting not only Israel but also neighboring Arab states.
