Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup despite a five-run victory against already-eliminated Sri Lanka in a Super Eights match in Pallekele. Their inferior net run-rate meant they needed to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 or less to reach the semifinals, but the opponents finished on 207-6.
Pakistan posted 212-8, powered by a T20 World Cup record opening stand of 176 runs between Sahibzada Farhan (100) and Fakhar Zaman (84). Farhan became the first player to score two centuries in a single T20 World Cup, amassing a tournament-record 383 runs. For Sri Lanka, Pavan Rathnayake made 58, while captain Dasun Shanaka smashed an unbeaten 76 off 31 balls, including three consecutive sixes in the final over.
Pakistan's previous highest total at a T20 World Cup was 201-5 against Bangladesh in 2016.
