Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei emphasized that Iran is entitled to defend itself from Israeli and US attacks.
"We have every right in accordance with international law and the UN Charter to defend ourselves with all might," he said in an Al Jazeera interview on Saturday.
The US and Israel launched attacks across multiple Iranian cities, including Tehran, on Saturday. Iranian media reported at least 201 fatalities.
Iran responded with missile strikes targeting Israel and US military assets in Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
Baghaei stated that Iran's armed forces "are defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity against these barbaric acts of aggression."
The US-Israeli strikes followed the conclusion of a third round of indirect nuclear negotiations between the US and Iran on Friday.
Baghaei noted that the US "launching an act of aggression against another UN member" also threatens the international body.
He defended Iran's retaliatory actions, saying, "Under international law, any location or logistical support given to the aggressor is a legitimate target for the victim state."
