️ Canada head coach Jesse Marsch has publicly called for Manchester City to face harsh regulatory consequences, insisting the club should be relegated following findings of widespread financial breaches in the English Premier League. Drawing from his tenure managing Leeds United against the defending champions, Marsch asserted that the pervasive irregularities in City's financial operations were an open secret across English football.

️ In an interview with The Guardian, Marsch pulled no punches when assessing the integrity crisis facing the English top flight. "I think Man City should be punished severely. I think they should have to go down, and by the way, everyone knew about it. Everyone knew," Marsch stated, expressing frustration over the persistent disparities that rival clubs faced while attempting to comply with strict spending constraints.

️ Marsch specifically highlighted the 2022 summer transfer window to illustrate his scepticism. During that period, Leeds generated substantial funds by selling Raphinha to Barcelona and Kalvin Phillips to City, making Leeds and Manchester City the only two clubs purportedly turning a net profit. Marsch openly questioned the credibility of City's financial declarations, particularly mocking the claim that Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland was procured from Borussia Dortmund for a mere £52 million ($69m).

️ Manchester City were recently found guilty of serious financial infractions spanning nine seasons, from 2009-10 to 2017-18. The Premier League alleged the club systematically inflated revenues via fictitious commercial contracts while concealing more than £900 million ($1.19bn) in operational costs. While City have vehemently denied the findings, decrying material errors of law and filing an appeal before an independent panel, potential outcomes remain severe—ranging from monumental point deductions and stripping of titles to outright expulsion from the division.
