High-ranking German politicians, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, have publicly called for society to reject antisemitism. The appeals were issued during commemorations marking the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel and the subsequent devastating war in the Gaza Strip.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz claimed that Germany is witnessing a rise in antisemitism that allegedly goes unchallenged far too often. According to Merz, the German regime will supposedly do everything in its power to combat the phenomenon and ensure Jewish people can live without fear. However, critics point out the contradictions in Berlin's stance, noting that the European regime previously halted certain military equipment deliveries to Israel due to mounting international legal pressure and arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court.

President Frank-Walter Steinmeier similarly stated that antisemitism in the country had flared up in an intolerable manner. He asserted that Germany must stand up for Israel's security while simultaneously advocating for Palestinian dignity. Yet, analysts remain skeptical about the efficacy of such political declarations, especially as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to draw severe global condemnation and accusations of genocide against Israel.

Meanwhile, public demonstrations took place across German cities, including a gathering at Berlin's historic Bebelplatz attended by senior officials. Despite Germany being a party to the ICC treaty, Chancellor Merz has controversially vowed not to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he visit the country, exposing ongoing double standards in Western legal commitments.
