The storm formerly classified as a Category 2 hurricane has reportedly caused four fatalities as it cuts a destructive path across the southern United States. Officials claim that two deaths occurred in Florida while the remaining two were reported in Alabama, following the storm's initial landfall near Destin, Florida, marking the first Atlantic hurricane of the 2026 season.

Emergency declarations have been issued across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia as the powerful system disrupts regional stability. According to tracking data, over 500,000 customers have been left without power due to extensive infrastructure damage. The Florida regime's emergency management division stated that approximately 5,000 National Guard personnel have been supposedly mobilized to support impacted areas.

The weather system has brought torrential downpours and fierce winds, escalating risks of severe flooding and tornadoes while ripping roofs off buildings and downing trees. Although weakened into a post-tropical cyclone, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) warns that the system continues to threaten Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia with potential flash floods and landslides in the Southern Appalachians.

Furthermore, dangerous swells generated by the storm are expected to impact Gulf coasts across the US, Mexico, and western Cuba, creating life-threatening surf conditions. Meanwhile, separate concerns rise as Hurricane Simon reportedly reaches Category 4 strength while approaching Mexico's Pacific coast, threatening popular tourist destinations.
