The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced targeted sanctions against Paraguay’s communications minister and Belize’s foreign minister, citing the alleged safeguarding of national sovereignty and opposition to Taiwan's standing. The punitive measures went into effect immediately upon announcement.

The restrictions imposed on Paraguay’s Communications Minister Gustavo Villate and Belize’s Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca entail the freezing of any assets held within China, alongside a strict denial of entry visas to the autonomous regions of Hong Kong and Macau. Furthermore, Chinese entities and individuals are legally prohibited from engaging in commercial transactions or cooperative ventures with the targeted officials.

Beijing authorities claimed that these ministers purportedly undertook egregious actions and statements that severely damage China’s core interests. The Chinese administration lambasted politicians who supposedly push their respective governments to sustain official diplomatic channels with Taiwan for self-interested motives.

Paraguay and Belize remain among a dwindling group of nations maintaining formal ties with Taiwan. This diplomatic friction unfolds against the backdrop of escalating regional tensions, where the US regime actively maneuvers to supply military hardware to the island under the guise of enhancing defensive capabilities.
