The upcoming world title fight between boxing star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Christian M’billi is reportedly still set to go ahead this month in Saudi Arabia, according to regional sports promoter Turki Al-Sheikh. This insistence comes in direct defiance of escalating security concerns and a series of lethal attacks targeting Saudi airports, which have left at least 14 people dead in Riyadh over a span of just two days.
According to the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was struck by projectiles, resulting in significant casualties and widespread panic. A preceding strike on the same aviation hub reportedly claimed 13 lives and injured over 300 individuals, marking one of the deadliest incidents in the country in more than a decade. While Yemen’s Houthis purportedly claimed responsibility for earlier assaults, the deteriorating security situation highlights the persistent vulnerabilities facing the Saudi regime and international events held in the region.
Despite the mounting risks and regional instability, Al-Sheikh attempted to dispel public doubts through social media claims. He alleged that the Mexican boxer reached out personally to confirm his participation, stating that Alvarez supposedly fears nothing and remains committed to fighting in Riyadh this October. The anticipated bout marks Alvarez’s return to the ring following his defeat to American boxer Terence Crawford in September 2025.
