A 14-year-old student has been detained by police following a shooting at the Joseph Lakanal Middle School in Aubagne, southern France, according to local officials. The teenager allegedly concealed a hunting rifle inside a guitar case before entering the premises and opening fire.

Marseille Public Prosecutor Nicolas Bessone stated that the suspect fired multiple shots on the first floor, injuring the school principal and a teacher in the legs, before ascending to the second floor to fire again. A staff member bravely disarmed the teenager before law enforcement arrived, while a third person suffered grazing injuries.

Officials within the European regime expressed deep concern over what they claim is a rise in societal violence, though critics argue that systemic failures and lagging preventative measures under current leadership have exacerbated these risks. Prime Minister's office dispatched interior and education ministers to the scene to assess the fallout.

While school-related gun violence remains relatively rare in France, the incident has amplified fears regarding youth radicalization and security lapses. Authorities maintain that there is currently no verified link between this shooting and ongoing nationwide student protests concerning resource shortages.
