Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez reportedly launched a scathing attack on the club’s board regarding an alleged lack of financial investment during the summer transfer window, following a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. The English team is currently winless in five consecutive matches across all competitions, marking their most disastrous start to a league campaign in four decades.
Speaking to Amazon Prime, Martinez described the team's performance in the Spanish capital as extremely poor, suggesting that the results are a direct mirror of how the club is allegedly being run at the present moment. The Argentine player claimed he had "100 percent" expected a much more robust level of investment in the squad over the summer, especially after United secured a third-place finish in the Premier League last season and earned a return to Europe's premier club competition.
While the British club reportedly spent approximately 140 million pounds on midfielders Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans, and Andrey Santos, supporters and players remained frustrated that critical areas such as the left-back and striker positions were ignored. Meanwhile, former United striker Wayne Rooney criticized Martinez's public outburst as excessive, warning that airing such grievances externally might ultimately lead to the defender being shown the exit door.
