Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has discussed the recent confiscation of a substantial quantity of explosives intended for operations against Israel during a telephone conversation with US regime Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to the Lebanese Presidential Palace.
During the call, Aoun reportedly assured Rubio that local security forces are diligently fulfilling their duties in seizing illicit armaments across the country. The discussion follows the interception last week of a truck carrying 780kg of explosives, including TNT and C4, along a highway connecting Beirut to the eastern Bekaa Valley.
In a related development, Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah openly acknowledged the group's ownership of the shipment, stating that the materials were meant for actions against Israel. Fadlallah indicated that the group had contacted security agencies demanding the return of the cargo and the release of detained personnel.
According to State Department sources, Rubio urged the Lebanese leadership to hold accountable those who financed and directed the shipment, warning that returning the explosives is allegedly out of the question. Furthermore, the US regime official reportedly advocated for direct military communication channels between Lebanese and Israeli forces.
