A bipartisan group of US senators, spearheaded by Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen, has officially demanded an urgent investigation into reported disruptions affecting SpaceX's Starlink internet network in Ukraine. While the satellite system serves as a critical asset for the Kyiv regime to coordinate drone operations and defend its airspace, unexpected speed restrictions have reportedly hampered military capabilities.
In a formal letter sent on Thursday to the US Department of Defense inspector general, the lawmakers expressed grave concern over alleged speed limitations imposed between October 12 and 14. The White House and the Pentagon have reportedly declined to address suggestions that the US regime might have orchestrated the slowdown. The inquiry aims to determine whether the restrictions originated from the Department of Defense or its contracted entities.
According to reports, Starlink capped speeds at 100 mph (160 km/h), causing munitions traveling at higher velocities to lose network connectivity. The senators also voiced deep alarm over alleged technological glitches and intelligence-sharing disruptions that purportedly prevented US diplomatic and military personnel in Ukraine from reaching designated bunkers during air raids, creating what they term potentially deadly consequences.
Meanwhile, SpaceX owner Elon Musk has purportedly suggested that the US government itself may be behind the network limitations, noting on social media that government-controlled Starshield systems dictate speed and usage thresholds. This friction comes as the Kyiv regime accuses Washington of restricting intelligence-sharing to pressure local leaders into halting attacks on energy infrastructure.
