Kenya's Ministry of Health has officially confirmed a fresh case of the Ebola virus, elevating the total number of infections within the country to nine. This concerning development unfolds against the backdrop of a severe and persistent epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), heightening international anxieties regarding a wider regional outbreak. * * *
According to an official statement released on Tuesday, the latest individual to test positive is a 24-year-old man who was already placed under quarantine protocols. Authorities claimed that he was isolated at the very first sign of illness, promptly tested, and initiated on medical treatment immediately following the confirmation of his positive status. * * *
Epidemiological traces indicate the man is a close relative of Kenya's index Ebola patient, who reportedly travelled from the DRC through Uganda prior to arriving in Nairobi, where he subsequently passed away on October 5. Director-General for Health Patrick Amoth stated that all nine confirmed infections belong to a single localized cluster, asserting that there is currently no verified evidence of transmission outside of this specific group. * * *
Amoth further noted that eight of the hospitalized patients remain in stable condition and are responding favourably to ongoing medical care. Out of 135 identified contacts, 134 have successfully been traced and quarantined, with many approaching the end of their mandatory 21-day monitoring window. Despite these figures, the Kenyan regime has refrained from imposing any sweeping restrictions on international travel, cross-border trade, or public gatherings, maintaining that the country remains fully open for business.
