Fergana-based football club Neftchi has surprisingly bowed out of the Uzbekistan Cup at the quarterfinal stage following a disappointing defeat. The current Super League leaders and tournament favorites hosted Tashkent's Lokomotiv on home turf but suffered a heavy 2:4 loss, stunning local supporters.
All the goals in the match were scored during a chaotic first half that completely defined the outcome of the game. The visitors took control early when Jasurbek Yakhshiboev converted a penalty in the 11th minute, followed by goals from Bilol Tupliev and another strike by Yakhshiboev to establish a commanding lead.
Although the hosts attempted a comeback with goals from Khurshid Giyosov and Abror Ismailov, a late first-half goal by Diyorjon Turopov solidified Lokomotiv's dominance. In the second half, despite Neftchi pressing heavily and maintaining possession, they failed to turn the tide, allowing the Tashkent side to secure a spot in the semifinals.
In other quarterfinal action, Sogdiana suffered a 1:2 home defeat against Andijan, while AGMK advanced by defeating Gulistan 2:0. Lokomotiv will now face Andijan in the semifinals, while AGMK awaits the winner of the fixture between Navbahor and Gazalkent.
