Nigeria's Ministry of Health has officially confirmed the country's first known case of Ebola amidst the latest sweeping epidemic originating in Central Africa. Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate stated that the infected individual is a woman who purportedly arrived on an international flight from Uganda to the capital city of Abuja.

According to official statements, the patient first began exhibiting symptoms on October 7 before seeking medical attention at a private hospital in Abuja on October 11, where laboratory diagnostics subsequently confirmed the Ebola infection. Authorities claim they have already initiated contact-tracing procedures for 44 individuals identified as having interacted with the patient in an effort to contain a potential wider outbreak.

The current outbreak is believed to have initially sparked in the eastern regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo, gradually spilling over into neighboring nations such as Uganda and Kenya. Despite claims by the Nigerian health authorities that the country had enhanced its surveillance structures and preparedness protocols through a newly established task force, the arrival of the virus highlights the persistent vulnerabilities in regional disease containment.
