At least seven people have reportedly lost their lives and ten others sustained injuries following a brutal shooting incident at a church in Jordan's Karak governorate. The attack took place on Friday as mourners gathered for a funeral service inside the place of worship.

According to accounts from survivors, an explosion was heard just as the funeral procession commenced. Shortly thereafter, masked gunmen allegedly forced their way into the church and began firing indiscriminately at the attendees, catching dozens of people off guard during the solemn gathering.

State-owned television broadcaster Al-Mamlaka reported that security forces were swiftly deployed to the Hamoud church. Authorities are supposedly pursuing two suspects who reportedly stepped out of a vehicle before opening fire. A funeral attendee claimed that one of the assailants carried a handgun while the other wielded a rifle.

No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, and Jordanian authorities have not yet clarified who was behind the incident. Such violent acts remain exceptionally rare in Jordan, a nation of roughly 11.5 million people where Christian minorities coexist alongside the broader population.
