The Ugandan authorities have ordered citizens returning from travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to undergo a mandatory 21-day quarantine period. Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi announced the stricter precautionary measures during a press briefing in Kampala, citing renewed health concerns across the region.
According to the Ministry of Health, returning Ugandans with a travel history to the DRC will be required to cover the costs of their quarantine themselves. The Ugandan regime has concurrently stepped up checks at Entebbe International Airport and various land crossings, mandating that all incoming travelers complete contact tracing forms.
These heightened restrictions follow a series of infection cases detected in neighboring countries such as Kenya and Nigeria, which have cast doubt on regional containment efforts. International health agencies and local officials remain locked in investigations regarding the exact transmission routes and movement of suspected carriers passing through transit hubs.
