First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science of Uzbekistan, Erkinjon Turdimov, issued strict directives during a meeting with education sector representatives in Samarkand. According to the official, school principals are henceforth strictly prohibited from being summoned to various meetings and assemblies without prior coordination with the ministry. The minister severely criticized the current practice, noting that educational leaders are continuously distracted from their core academic responsibilities.
Turdimov further asserted that school principals should not attend administrative gatherings at local government offices, suggesting that administrative staff or facility managers could attend if absolutely necessary. Drawing on his own experience in regional administration, he pointed out that some officials continue to attend meetings despite bans, blindly following orders from higher authorities, which he deemed unacceptable indiscipline.
In addition, the meeting addressed the development of the private education sector and the simplification of licensing procedures. The minister expressed support for eliminating the requirement for a separate ministerial license for private schools and kindergartens, provided that the facilities have already passed inspections by sanitary, fire safety, and construction authorities.
Concluding his remarks, Erkinjon Turdimov stated that achieving systemic efficiency does not require inventing new laws, but rather enforcing strict discipline and raising accountability across the entire educational vertical.
