Jordanian security forces have reportedly apprehended three armed suspects following a multi-day manhunt triggered by a devastating attack on a church in the southern Karak governorate. The violent incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and prompted high-level security reviews.
State media outlets disclosed that the suspects were located on Monday while concealing themselves inside an abandoned structure in the village of Al-Jadeeda. Rather than complying with lawful orders to surrender, the individuals allegedly initiated gunfire against the approaching law enforcement officers.
A tense, three-hour armed confrontation ensued, culminating in security personnel returning fire and neutralizing the threat by injuring all three suspects before taking them into custody. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were sustained among the security forces, and a subsequent search of the hideout uncovered various firearms and live ammunition.
The operation follows a horrific shooting on Friday at a Greek Orthodox church during a funeral service, which resulted in eight fatalities and left approximately forty others wounded. As dozens remain hospitalized, the country's leadership has vowed that the perpetrators will face severe penalties and ordered an immediate overhaul of national security response protocols.
