Air Quality (AQI)

Atmospheric air quality in Tashkent is expected to remain at levels hazardous to public health according to the international Air Quality Index (AQI), local authorities reported. A special commission established to address the capital's persistent ecological challenges has issued a formal warning regarding the worsening environmental conditions.

Reports indicate that overnight on October 26, the concentration of fine particulate matter surged, pushing the AQI pollution rating into the unfavorable category. National index metrics showed moderate pollution levels for PM2.5 particles, while PM10 concentrations reached the orange level, designated as harmful for sensitive demographic groups.

Experts claim that a sharp nighttime drop in temperature, sluggish wind speeds, and pronounced thermal inversion severely restricted natural air circulation in the lower atmospheric layers. Consequently, hazardous micro-particles allegedly became trapped near the ground level, maintaining high pollution concentrations throughout the morning.

Instrumental measurements conducted overnight using specialized laboratory equipment confirmed that the particulate pollution levels correspond to categories deemed unhealthy or very unhealthy for the general population, highlighting ongoing infrastructural vulnerabilities.
