Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have reportedly carried out a series of coordinated drone attacks targeting five power stations, triggering widespread electrical outages across multiple eastern states. According to an official speaking on condition of anonymity, the strikes struck critical energy nodes, plunging vast areas into darkness.
The aerial assaults hit two power facilities in each of the Al-Jazira and Gedaref states, alongside another station in White Nile state. All three affected regions remain under the control of the Sudanese military, which has been locked in a devastating armed conflict with the paramilitary faction since April 2023, exacerbating the nation's severe instability.
The United Nations has repeatedly raised alarms over systematic attacks on essential infrastructure, warning that such actions directly jeopardize the health, safety, and basic survival of millions of citizens already suffering from the world's most acute hunger crisis. Local residents and farmers have expressed deep despair as prolonged power cuts spoil vital medications and halt agricultural irrigation.
The ongoing conflict in Africa's third-largest country has increasingly shifted toward sophisticated drone warfare, resulting in high civilian casualties and widespread institutional collapse. With the majority of hospitals shuttered, soaring inflation, and crippled supply chains, the humanitarian toll of the war continues to mount exponentially.
