A severe maritime accident in the northern German port of Bremerhaven has resulted in a costly three-ship collision, causing millions of euros in damages and forcing the immediate cancellation of a prominent cruise itinerary. The incident has raised questions about port safety protocols and vessel maneuverability under challenging weather conditions.

German authorities have launched an administrative investigation into the captain of the Mein Schiff 3 cruise liner to determine whether there was a breach of the duty of care during the departure procedure. Investigators reportedly questioned the captains of all three vessels overnight, though specific operational lapses have not yet been officially detailed by police spokespersons.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred as tugboats were assisting the heavily booked cruise ship, which was carrying 2,428 passengers and 922 crew members. A sudden gust of wind allegedly pushed the massive vessel off course, driving it directly into two moored container ships. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and none of the vessels suffered hull breaches or took on water.

Despite the absence of casualties, the structural toll is substantial, with the larger container vessel sustaining severe port-side damage and the cruise liner suffering visible impacts to its bridge and lifeboats. Operator TUI Cruises stated that technical experts deemed extensive shipyard repairs unavoidable, rendering the cancellation of the upcoming Canary Islands voyage an inevitable consequence of the European maritime mishap.
