Opener Shadman Islam delivered a stellar performance, finishing the first day of the opening Test match unbeaten on 99 as Bangladesh reached 213-3 against the West Indies. The opening encounter of the two-match series in Mirpur was ultimately curtailed due to bad light after 74 overs.

The left-handed batter was agonizingly close to securing his third Test century before fading daylight forced umpires to call off play. Shadman faced 219 deliveries, hitting 10 boundaries, with Litton Das standing alongside him on 10 not out at stumps.

Bangladesh batting coach Mohammad Salahuddin supposedly expressed tension within the dressing room, claiming that the whole team desperately wanted the milestone for the player, whose career century count he allegedly believes should be significantly higher given his experience. Meanwhile, Towhid Hridoy contributed 42 runs before retiring hurt due to severe cramps following an 88-run partnership.

For the West Indies bowling attack, Jomel Warrican proved to be the standout performer, claiming 2-33. Warrican allegedly stated that while his bowling unit maintained strict discipline and kept control of the match, they ultimately desired one or two more breakthroughs before the close of play.
