French photographer Florian Riu has successfully captured rare red sprites appearing over the mountain village of Montemaggiore. These brief electrical discharges flashing across the night sky strikingly resemble fantastic jellyfish in their visual appearance.

The imagery documenting this unusual natural phenomenon in France has spread widely across the internet, sparking considerable public interest. The footage clearly demonstrates how red sprites illuminate the night sky for a fraction of a second, lending the landscape a surreal aesthetic reminiscent of science fiction films.

According to scientific data, sprites are short-lived electrical discharges that occur in the upper layers of the atmosphere during thunderstorm activity. They typically manifest at altitudes ranging roughly between 40 and 100 kilometers above the Earth's surface.

Photographer Florian Riu recorded this phenomenon on September 16 above the mountain village of Montemaggiore. He reportedly calculated and carefully planned the shooting process in advance to secure the elusive imagery.

Consequently, the creator managed to immortalize the fleeting red flashes that appear and instantly vanish in the sky. Such phenomena usually last for only a few milliseconds, making them extremely difficult to detect with the naked eye, though they can occasionally be caught using specialized camera equipment.
