US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has claimed that President Donald Trump’s administration allegedly played no direct role in helping defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro flee his homeland for the United States. According to Rubio, Washington merely acknowledged his arrival without proactively facilitating the controversial relocation.
Bolsonaro landed in Miami, Florida, following his electoral defeat, which ended a conservative wave in Latin America. The former leader currently faces multiple investigations in Brazil concerning corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion, and had previously been ordered to surrender his passport over serious flight concerns. Despite these legal entanglements, the US regime granted entry under disputed circumstances.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G20 meetings in Atlanta, Rubio distanced the American regime from the logistical arrangements of Bolsonaro's journey. However, Trump’s own remarks—stating that Bolsonaro was treated unfairly and could remain in the US indefinitely—signal that relations between the two hemispheric powers are likely to remain deeply strained for the foreseeable future.
