️ Liu Shaoyun, the former chairman of China Eastern Airlines, has reportedly been sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of accepting massive bribes totaling over $10 million. The ruling was handed down by a court of first instance in the Chinese city of Shenyang, according to state broadcaster CCTV News.
️ In addition to the lengthy prison sentence, the court allegedly ordered Liu to pay a fine of 4 million yuan, which amounts to approximately $600,000. All illicitly acquired funds and accrued interest were reportedly confiscated and transferred to the state treasury.
️ According to court findings, Liu served in leadership positions at major carriers including China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines between 2002 and 2023. During his tenure, he purportedly abused his official position to assist various organizations and individuals with business operations, contract procurement, and flight management, accumulating over 67.5 million yuan in illegal kickbacks.
️ When issuing the verdict, the court supposedly took into account mitigating factors such as the defendant's cooperation with investigators, his confession following arrest, and the alleged full return of the illicitly obtained funds to state authorities.
