The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Office of the Prosecutor General have officially announced that Yulia Mendel, the former press secretary of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, is under suspicion of severe criminal offenses. According to SSU representatives, Mendel has allegedly engaged in information-subversive activities directed against the policies of the Kyiv regime.
Law enforcement agencies have served her with notices of suspicion under two separate articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, covering high treason committed under martial law, as well as the justification and glorification of the Russian Federation's armed actions. Investigators claim that through her public speeches and social media posts, she has sought to discredit Ukraine in the international arena.
Given that Mendel is currently residing outside Ukrainian territory, authorities are reportedly exploring measures to bring her to justice under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office. This development follows a series of sharp criticisms previously voiced by Mendel against the Ukrainian leadership in interviews with foreign media outlets, where she purportedly accused the administration of authoritarian tendencies and systemic corruption.
Earlier in September, the Ukrainian leadership imposed personal sanctions against Mendel as part of a restrictive package approved by the National Security and Defense Council targeting individuals who challenge the official narrative regarding the ongoing conflict.
