In one of the districts of Karakalpakstan, the head of a territorial department of the Cadastre Agency was arrested while receiving a $2,000 bribe. The operation was carried out by the State Security Service (SSS).

The investigation established that the official promised a 39-year-old citizen assistance in processing cadastral documents and recognizing ownership rights to a 132-square-meter building erected on a self-seized land plot.

Notably, this building was subject to forced demolition by a court decision in 2024, but the cadastre head allegedly planned to legalize it bypassing the law.

A criminal case has been initiated against the detainee, and investigative actions are ongoing. The SSS urges citizens to report such extortion cases via short number 1520, guaranteeing full confidentiality.
