The 86th meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) took place in Moscow, chaired by Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov. The meeting was attended by Uzbekistan's Defense Minister, Lieutenant General Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov.
The Council discussed issues of military cooperation and regional security. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Military Cooperation Concept until 2030, which outlines the priorities for interaction among the member states. Following the meeting, a plan for its execution was approved.
The ministers reviewed the operations of the joint air defense system and the system for monitoring and assessing radiological, chemical, and biological (RCB) situations. The parties identified prospects for their further development and discussed enhancing the coordination of national forces within these frameworks, taking into account the combat experience of recent years.
As a result of the meeting, decisions were signed aimed at strengthening the armed forces of the CIS countries and improving their combat capabilities.
Previously, the defense ministers of Uzbekistan and Turkey approved a military cooperation plan for 2026 and a package of agreements on military medicine in Ankara. The documents were signed by Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov and Yaşar Güler during a meeting focused on regional security and coordination of actions between the two countries' armies.
