Former Chairman of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiyev, has been charged with two counts under the Criminal Code. He is accused of forcible seizure or retention of power and abuse of official position.
According to the 24.kg publication, citing lawyer Ikramidin Aitkulov, the charges fall under parts 2 and 4 of the abuse of office article, involving actions for personal gain or committed by a person in a responsible position. A written undertaking not to leave the country has been imposed as a preventive measure. Tashiyev has pleaded not guilty.
The lawyer also stated that the former SCNS head left the Interior Ministry building after interrogation around 11:00 p.m. The status of former Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev and former Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, who are also implicated in the case, remains unclear.
Senior officials have been summoned for interrogations for the second consecutive day. The ministry has not officially commented on the matter.
Earlier, the military prosecutor's office of Kyrgyzstan conducted a series of large-scale detentions within the leadership of the State Committee for National Security. The key figure in the investigation is former deputy chairman Timur Shabdanbekov, who is suspected of abuse of office.
