In one of the districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the head of a local cadastre department was detained by officers of the State Security Service while receiving a $2,000 bribe from a citizen.
According to the investigation, the official promised to recognize property rights and process cadastral documents for a 132-square-meter plot of land that had been illegally occupied by a citizen born in 1987. A building had been constructed on the land, despite a 2024 civil court ruling ordering its forced demolition.
A criminal case has been opened against the cadastre chief, and investigative actions are underway. The incident highlights ongoing anti-corruption efforts among public officials in Uzbekistan.
