Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov announced that the country is in talks with Russia about building a new gas pipeline to China via Kazakhstan. The report was carried by TASS news agency.
The project involves a pipeline with a capacity of up to 35 billion cubic meters of gas per year, considered as one of the options for extending the Power of Siberia 2 route. The minister noted that the working name may change.
Akkenzhenov stated that Astana is interested in implementing the project through its territory and is ready to provide all necessary conditions and guarantees for transit.
According to the minister, the project is of strategic importance for Kazakhstan as it will allow additional gas supply to the northern and eastern regions of the country.
