Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said in an interview with the Financial Times that Kazakhstan has expressed readiness to consider storing Iran's uranium stockpiles.
One of the key issues in negotiations on Iran's nuclear program remains its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60%. Grossi noted that the IAEA's Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank operates in Ust-Kamenogorsk, established to provide member states with nuclear fuel in case of supply disruptions.
He suggested that the existing infrastructure could potentially be used to store Iranian uranium if agreements are reached. Grossi also said he discussed the matter with Kazakh officials during a meeting last week.
