Kazakhstan is implementing measures to curb the illegal export of fuel across its borders, as announced by Deputy Energy Minister Kayirkhan Tutkishbayev during a government briefing.

One of the key measures is restricting the entry of vehicles from neighboring countries. Currently, trucks and cars from bordering states are allowed to enter Kazakhstan no more than once per day.

“The main focus now is on identifying vehicles equipped with additional fuel tanks used for the ‘gray’ export of fuel,” Tutkishbayev stated. He added that violators attempting to illegally transport fuel are regularly caught in border areas.

Earlier, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov ordered tighter oversight of illegal fuel and lubricant exports. According to government data, within just two days, authorities prevented 61 attempts to smuggle over 3 tons of fuel in extra tanks and canisters at checkpoints. Since the beginning of the year, 593 attempts to illegally export petroleum products have been detected.
