Tajikistan has released statistics on suicides and suicide attempts for the first half of 2026. According to Bunafsha Fayziddinzoda, chairwoman of the country's Committee on Women and Family Affairs, a total of 250 cases were recorded, with 138 involving men and 112 involving women.
In 196 cases, individuals died, while 54 attempts were prevented. Among minors, 27 cases involved boys and 18 involved girls, meaning children and adolescents accounted for 18% of the total.
The highest number of such incidents was recorded in the Sughd region of the country. This may be linked to socio-economic challenges and a lack of mental health services in the area.
For comparison, according to the latest available WHO estimate, in 2021 the suicide mortality rate in Uzbekistan was 8.3 per 100,000 population. Among men, it was 10.6, and among women, 6.1 cases.
Earlier, it was reported that law enforcement officers prevented a suicide attempt by a 19-year-old resident of Andijan. The young man was found on a bridge after a family conflict and was successfully rescued.
