Pakistan has declared "open war" with Afghanistan's Taliban government, with explosions reported in Kabul and ongoing clashes along the border. Pakistan says it has also attacked Kandahar and Paktika provinces inside Afghanistan.

The declaration came hours after Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated Afghanistan was conducting "large-scale offensive operations" against Pakistani forces along the Durand Line. The Taliban described this as retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes earlier this week.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep concern and urged both nations to adhere to international humanitarian law while prioritizing civilian protection. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called for dialogue and offered Tehran's assistance in facilitating talks.

Russia urged an immediate halt to cross-border attacks and offered mediation, according to RIA news agency. China's foreign ministry said Beijing was deeply concerned about the escalation and willing to play a constructive role in de-escalation.

Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated, "Our patience has reached its limit. Now it is open war." Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai responded that Afghanistan "will defend their homeland with complete unity and courage."
