Minor children of Uzbek women serving sentences in penal institutions in Russia’s Republic of Mordovia and Samara Oblast have been returned to Uzbekistan, the Dunyo news agency reported.

During consular and legal procedures, diplomats examined the children’s citizenship, their relatives in Uzbekistan, and other documents required for repatriation. All legal formalities were carried out in cooperation with Russian authorities.

The minors were taken from a children’s home located on the territory of a colony in Mordovia, accompanied by diplomats from the Consulate General in Kazan and officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and safely brought back to their homeland.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Omonulla Fayziyev, three children were returned in total: two girls — one aged 4 and another 2.5 years old — and a one-year-old boy.

“Measures to repatriate minor children of Uzbek citizens who were in children’s homes at Russian penal institutions are being carried out systematically. As a result of these efforts, our young citizens are being returned to their homeland step by step,” the Foreign Ministry statement said.
